SANTA CLARITA, CA – Today, Rep. George Whitesides joined clinicians and staff at the Samuel Dixon Family Health Center (SDFHC) in Newhall to highlight the potential harms posed by the recently passed federal budget, and how it could impact their clinic and local patients.
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. George Whitesides announced he is joining the Protecting Healthcare and Lowering Costs Act, legislation that would restore protections for Medicaid and permanently extend the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Enhanced Premium Tax Credit program. In July, the Republican majority in Congress passed a budget bill that threatened health care coverage for 15 million Americans, including over 200,000 of Rep. Whitesides’ constituents who rely on Medicaid (Medi-Cal in California).

Nearly a dozen congressional members in or near Los Angeles County are asking the federal government to launch a joint task force to monitor harmful pollutants that have resulted from the recent wildfires to track the potential impact on Southern California residents.
The representatives — who represent areas most impacted by the wildfires — raised concerns that routine smog and air quality monitoring systems don’t measure harmful pollutants like lead, chlorine, asbestos, larger ash particles and other heavy metals.
