ICYMI: Rep. Whitesides Joins Northeast Valley Health Corporation to Highlight the Importance of Medicaid to CA-27

March 19, 2025

Kim Wyard, Northeast Valley Health Corporation CEO: “Community health centers are the backbone of the nation’s system for caring for the low income, uninsured, and Medicaid populations … we can’t do it without Medicaid.”

SANTA CLARITA, CA – This week, Rep. George Whitesides joined health care providers and administrators from Northeast Valley Health Corporation (NEVHC) in Santa Clarita to tour their facilities, meet with their staff, and present their teams with Congressional certificates recognizing the importance of the services they provide to the Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valleys.

Incorporated in 1971, NEVHC oversees four health centers in California’s 27th District, serving over 22,000 patients. They rely on Medicaid to provide cost-effective care to low-income families, and their WIC facility works specifically to support under-resourced women, new mothers, and young children.

On February 25th, House Republicans passed a budget resolution that could cut up to $880 billion from Medicaid, threatening 240,698 Medicaid recipients in CA-27, including 98,000 children and 26,000 seniors. This kind of reduction would decimate community health centers across the country, and render millions unable to access necessary health care. Rep. Whitesides will continue to meet with local patients and providers to discuss how he can best fight against these cuts in Congress.
